• Healthy Hens – Your hen’s health is a top priority, and each laying hen needs sufficient calcium for their own health and the quality of the eggs they lay. Proper amounts of calcium are necessary to skeletal structure, muscle contraction for egg laying, nervous system, digestive system, and other functions. A hen who is deficient in calcium may experience weakness, lethargy, feather plucking, skeletal issues like bone fractures, and decreased or halted egg production. 
• Eggshell Quality – Our pure, flaked Oyster Shell provides a natural, calcium boost to your hens to produce strong eggshells. A strong eggshell is the first line of defense in deflecting bad bacteria from the egg white and yolk. Hens with insufficient calcium levels often produce soft or brittle eggshells. Bacteria can fit through the larger pores of a soft, weak shell. A brittle shell is thin, unsaleable, and difficult to safely store. 
• Consistent Egg Production – Hens without consistent access to a nutritionally complete layer feed and a calcium supplement such as Oyster Shell or Limestone may lay fewer eggs or stop laying eggs. Hens in a mixed flock (with younger birds or with males) that are fed a nutritionally complete grower feed will need to consume more of a calcium supplement to make up for the lower amount of calcium in grower feed.
