• We create, blend and bag our own wild bird feed fresh daily at the mill. Only the finest quality seeds and grains are used. We eliminate the fillers that won’t provide the nutrition that beautiful native and migrating birds need.
  
  
• We formulate, mix and package our own companion animal and livestock feeds. These feeds provide the best combination of nutrients and flavor-filled rations your animals will love.
  
  
• We blend and package our own premium grass seed, pasture seed and forages. Formulated specifically for Minnesota terrain, soil and weather conditions for your lawns, pastures and athletic fields.
  

The Spikes & Houles family of feed stores have been serving local Minnesota communities for over 100 years.  At the Spikes & Houles store in Forest Lake there is a photo hanging up dated August 21st, 1916 that shows E.J. Houle making his first sale from the back of a horse-drawn wagon. From humble beginnings, Spikes & Houles family of feed stores has expanded to six locations serving thousands of customers, animals and pets.

 

We believe old feed mills, once updated & polished up, not only make an enjoyable and fun place to shop, but also convey the history of who we are and what we believe through the aesthetic. Our admiration for old feed mill buildings is strong as we carry on their history of handcrafted & locally made, fresh feed, and high quality product made daily for your pets and farm animals. In 2020, Spike’s Feed, Seed, & Pet Supply acquired EJ Houle’s Feed Stores and through that acquisition, grew from three locations to five.

 

To preserve the history of our newly adopted stores we changed our name to Spikes & Houles, incorporating both of the family names that lit the torch for our business to carry on. The most-recent Spike & Houles location opened in April 2021, located in Maple Plain, MN. The Grand Opening of Spikes & Houles: Maple Plain brought the total number of our locations to six. Our Spikes & Houles locations offer in-store shopping, curbside pickup, and delivery. You can even shop online & use our convenient curbside pickup at the Historic Mill in Delano. Spikes & Houles is a proud member of the Gertens Family of Businesses. In 2021, we expanded our product line to feature more lawn & garden items including fresh, locally-grown Gertens plants for each season.
